Jennifer is a multimedia artist studying for a degree in Ceramics in Preston, UK. She graduated with a degree in Fine Art in 2005, and then spent 2 years working in Sheffield where she collaborated on a digital art commission whilst working on her own sculptural projects.
Jennifer's work began as temporary installations using wire, paper and fabric and evolved into more stand alone pieces designed to connect to the human body. The permanence of the new work called for more permanent materials, and so after experimenting with plaster of paris, decided that its similarity with ceramic material was the way forward for her, and so returned to University to study for a degree in ceramics.
Jennifer's degree course covers all aspects of ceramic design and manufacture, but she found the tuition on decorating the finished ceramic piece was limited, so decided to spend her summer break from University gaining experience in surface decoration with a Kiln Fired Art programme in Southport. She is now learning the manipulation of overglaze paints, lustres and textures, and also glass work to further her knowledge of all Kiln Fired Techniques.
By the end of her degree Jennifer hopes to have covered all Kiln Fired Art techniques including enamel on copper and PMC therefore giving herself the best opportunity to become a successful professional working UK artist.
Centigrade will do all it can to support and promote such a dedicated and tenacious young person, and we have such faith in Jennifer that she has been asked to do a demonstration at Centigrade - 2nd Fire on 27th Sept 2009.
