Jill has always been interested in Art and Design, she started china painting about 20 years ago and soon became hooked. Jill studied City and Guilds to Diploma level and is now studying with the OCA to improve her skills as an artist.
Her overglaze paintings are mainly influenced by the diversity of the natural world. Landscape, flora and fauna are a main source of inspiration. Jill likes to explore these in a traditional manner using classical overglaze painting techniques, as well as in a less traditional way, usually focusing on the textural properties of the subject. Recently abstract texture is playing a greater role in her work and of late she has been painting with sugar syrup as a medium, this has opened up a wealth of textural paint effects.
Jill also enjoys the challenge of trying to cross boundaries between media by taking techniques from one medium to use in another. It is the 'journey' and the endless possibilities with overglaze that keeps her interest.
Jill does not teach seminars except for Centigrade Kiln Fired Art, and she gives her full support to the encouragement of the ceramic students who she believes to be the future of china painting.
