The Ceramic Artists of Southport have Paint-a-long sessions every Thursday morning and a seminar every month.
For 11 years they have gone into local schools and worked with 30 children at a time to teach them how to paint on china. Over a 2 hour period the school children complete a piece of work which is fired overnight and returned the following day.
The Ceramic Artists have worked alongside Tony McCoy in every class he has taught since qualifying as a teacher. Tony is now the Head Teacher of Marshside Primary School in Southport where he aims to let all 207 children paint on china. Tony actively encourages his teachers and assistants to get involved, and has recycling as a high priority within the school. To this end the use of recycled glass is the next Kiln Fired Technique to be introduced to his pupils.
Jill Egan has offered to help and mentor the Ceramic Artists in order to introduce new glasswork in a safe and structured way within the school.
Tony took part in a live workshop with Royal Worcester artist, James Skerrett at Centigrade and painted a mug in public in 60 minutes.
