There are two main aims for the Centigrade shows. The first is to promote Kiln Fired Art and the artists already involved within this artistic field. The second is to help train and fund new students interested in Kiln Fired techniques.
Some of the Centigrade Students are already on a degree course in Ceramics. Some are post graduates who wish to expand the knowledge they already have, and some are people who want a hobby.
At Centigrade 2008 we had 42 people who came under the "Student" section, which means that they had been doing "Kiln Fired Art" for less than 18 months and were given a free ticket into the Centigrade 2008 show. Students ranged in age from 12 years old to retired. Each placed a piece of work on the Student Section of the competition and gave themselves a chance to not only show how much they have learned, but also the chance to win a £25 voucher for use on supplies. For 2009 we plan to have a £50 prize.
We are featuring 2 of the Centigrade students as an example of what they have achieved. When these pictures were taken Anna and Jennifer had only had 15 weeks of 2 hour lessons in paint, lustre and glass techniques.
